I am now in my fortieth year and beginning a new path in life:  a new job, Bodhisattva vows, an increasing resolve to better care for my body and mind, and ever deepening committment to my relationship of thirteen years.

I am originally from a small village in Western Maine where I grew up on a dairy farm. From an early age a sense of difference and separation from my family and environment created barriers between me and the world that I am now working to dismantle, stone by stone. My family and I are at peace with my homosexuality and they are coming to understand my choice of Buddhism over New England Congregationalism. Open and honest communication and a genuine desire to understand the other has overcome any suspicion and resentment; I feel very fortunate.

Although life is never easy, I no longer expect or want it to be. Every disappointment and joy is exactly as it should be…and I am grateful for the opportunities this life is giving me to struggle and savor each moment.
